History of Prizers In the basement of his family's farmhouse in 1922,
Raymond E. Prizer began his business with the purchase and sale of a single
battery-operated radio. With the sale of the radio, he was able to purchase two
more radios. The business rapidly expanded, filling a need among local farmers,
who without electricity, depended on battery operated radios to be aware of the
events in the world. He created a business based on repairing radios, as well as radio sales, starting the "we service what we sell" ideal.
In 1933, Raymond moved out of his
family farmhouse, which his family had shared with his parents and his brother's
family. He built his own house less than a mile away from the farm, on what is
now called Route 100, using a 12' x 15' room on the ground level as a showroom.
The repair shop, which repaired such brands as Water/Kent and Philco, was
located in his basement. In 1941, the expanding business allowed the Prizers to relocate their showroom to a small building 50 feet south. The new store allowed expansion into household & lawn care appliances. Maytag and Hotpoint were some early quality brands carried by Prizers (and still are). The 1960's held many changes for Prizers. John Deere equipment was a new addition to the business, which we still carry today. David Prizer, the eldest son of Raymond and his wife Anne, took over the family business, incorporating and expanding appliance brands and moving into television sales and services. David and his wife, Phyllis, ran the company
using the work-ethic put forth by Raymond Prizer, the company's founder, providing not only
quality appliances, but after-purchase support, such as repairs. They also
continued to be nice people who contributed to their community in countless
other ways. In 1995, David and Phyllis retired, and sold the business to James Peirson. James quickly found that the area's needs were changing, and successfully added the top-of-the-line household appliances that local people were seeking, as well as continuing to carry other quality brands. Jim has ensured that, now and in the future, Prizers will service what they sell; filling folks with an added security you can't get from bigger stores. Prizers today strives to ensure entire support: from helping customers decide on the correct appliance for their needs, ensuring that designers and builders have dimensions and specifications for the product, as well as repairs after purchase. As we move into the future, Prizers is continuing to utilize an old, but not necessarily outdated quality of complete service, and answering the ever-changing needs of customers. Prizers still strives to be a helpful and active part of an ever-expanding community, a quality rare among retailers in this day and age. |
